Wow. This place is always packed and with good reason. The food is great and the portions are huge! If you love getting way too much good food and leaving a restaurant feeling extremely full - this is your place!!! They also have a crazy happy hour with 2 for 1 drinks including gigantic margaritas! Woo!

I actually liked the salsa! It had a nice cilantro bite to it and just the right amount of pepper. Others posting state the salsa was watery. It was just not blended smooth. The tomatoes were a bit chunky which I liked. This is an above average "regular run of the mill mex joint". From the Louisiana/Mississippi line to Gulfport its the best ya gonna get. Try it. It's good. Oh yeah..the cheese dip is not watered down like some other places I've been to.

I absolutely love LaChula. I have been going for a few years now and have never been disappointed. I love their salsa, but I like my salsa a little on the watery side. I always get chicken quesadilla and it's always amazing. I LOVE LACHULA!

The guacamole is NOT HOME MADE. It's the junk u buy at walmart. Other than this. Service is great, food is good. Little dinner style place. Not to bad.

I had high hopes for this place and read alot of negative reviews and I figured I'd give it a chance. I was quickly proved wrong. I waited over an hour for a cold dry bland California burrito that a blind kid at McDonald's could make better.

For REAL authentic Mexican food, this is the place. A wide selection of dishes and combinations. The food comes out on hot dishes and plenty on the plate. Drink specials all the time and they are large. Staff is very friendly and kind. They check on you at all times. I would recommend La Chula.

Typical Mexican restaurant as far as menu and atmosphere. It's located very close to Hollywood casino where we were staying. The prices were good. We had lunch. My niece and nephew had the kids beef burrito which was ample food to fill them up for only 4.00. They ate every bit. I had a top shelf margarita which was tasty and potent but wasn't going to break any records as far as homemade and fresh ingredients. Keep in mind I was staying at the casino to use the pool so getting a decent drink there is impossible so it did make this margarita taste better. I also had a chili relleno with a taco. Both were good. The quacamole was not even edible. The worse I've ever tasted too garlicky. I liked the salsa which was different to me. It was thin but chunky with lots of cilantro. The cheese dip was good also. The service was awesome. La chula reminds me of every other Mexican restaurant around. If I'm in the area and craving Mexican food I would go back and give the fajitas a try.

Not my favorite Mexican eatery, but it'll do. The salsa is gross, it's so watered down. I had the vegetarian quesadillas and my husband had the big burrito. They both were great! Server was friendly and timely. Always a plus :)

Food here is hit or miss. I have my favorites (veggie fajitas) my husband and I split them and still have leftovers. My problem with this place is a particular employee, an older female server who has been extremely rude with me a few times. One Monday night (kids eat free) she was rushing to put my order in, and when the bill came, she had charged me for the kids meals because "my order was put in at 4:48, not 5" I was livid and didn't return for a long time. But the cheese dip is killer.

I really love this place. When I'm in the area, I always come here. I'm from Los Angeles, so I know good Mexican food and this place is super authentic. Everything I've eaten is delicious. The shrimp enchiladas are awesome as are the fajitas and anything with shrimp! The $2 margaritas aren't that great but for 2 bucks, what do you expect?

Service and restaurant were 5 stars, the food however, and please take my review with a grain of salt because I'm pretty spoiled on the west coast with mexican food. Taquerias on every corner, not all great, but for the most part really good mexican food, most of which blow this place out of the water. The chips and salsa were good. I had the "E" combo, which was a chile releno, beef enchilada, and beef taco. The side of beans and rice were good, pretty standard. It was just the type of the cheese (had a processed taste) in the releno and the way in which the chile was breaded and cooked. The beef in the taco and enchilada was not good, it was ground or minced (couldn't tell exactly), salty and little spice. The shell on the taco was one of those pre made store bought kind. The enchilada sauce wasn't very good either. I was expecting more quality in the food, but with like most things in this area the customers judge the food on quantity and price.

Very disappointed in the food, if you like salsa made from cold canned tomato sauce then this is your place. I ordered tortilla soup which cost $8 that was merely salty chicken broth and salsa with NO meat. Still in search of a decent Mexican restaurant..La Chula certainly fell short.

Great greasy cheesy quesadillas! Don't go here for chips and salsa. Tomato water and stale chips is what you'll get.

Rock solid Mexican! I will say that it's the most authentic in the area. Service has always been excellent and the beer is always cold.

Really good Mexican food! Friendly staff, good prices. $1.00 tacos on Thursdays!!! The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, the taco meat it just a little bit on the watery side, and if you don't eat the taco promptly the crisp shell gets a bit soggy.

If you want mexican food in the bay, this is the ONLY place to go. dont let its appearance fool you, its roomy, has excellent service, and the best tasting steak in town. we both got the steak quesadilla, full of tender delicious steak and lots of cheese, a side of rice, cheese dip, and the best chips and salsa you can get at a mexican restaurant. the biggest suprise up to how big their drinks are? the bill was only 20 bucks. DONT go to los tres amigos, save yourself the disappointment and go to la chula.

I was really surprised, great food at a good price. The service was fast and kept up with the crowd. This is where we will be coming fir Mexican food.

Didn't think we would find real Mexican food here in MS., but this place was great. I generally can tell if the food will be good by the salsa & chips that are served. They were outstanding! I have eaten here twice & both times the food was excellent & the service was just as good. I ordered cabrito & was shocked it was better than some I have eaten in Mexico. If you like Poncho's, then you might not like the real stuff.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
